Applications are now being accepted for the Jeff Burgess Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Jeff Burgess Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 following the death of Jeff Burgess, the research and development for the Lignite Council.

The scholarship is awarded annually to seniors from Burleigh, Mercer, McLean, Morton, or Oliver County high schools who excel academically and are continuing their education in a science-related field.

Following high school, Jeff earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from North Dakota State University, a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Cincinnati, and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Mary.

Funds raised through CoalPAC mulligans and other donations are dedicated to support the scholarship through the Lignite Energy Foundation and is administered by the North Dakota Community Foundation.

Deadline for application is April 1, 2024. Criteria information and applications can be found here https://www.ndcf.net/receive/scholarships/burgess.html
