BNI Coal, Ltd.’s Center Mine produces an average of 4.5 million tons every year with coal being sold to the nearby Young Station.
Falkirk Mine
The Falkirk Mine produces an average of 7.5 million tons ever year with coal being sold to the nearby Great River Energy.
Freedom Mine
One of the 12 largest mines in the United States and the largest lignite mine in the country, the Freedom Mine supplies more than 15 million tons of lignite coal annually to the Great Plains Synfuels Plant.
Savage Mine
The Savage Mine produces about 350,000 tons every year with coal being sold to the Lewis & Clark Station and a nearby sugar beet processing facility.
Coyote Creek Mine
The Coyote Creek Mine produces lignite coal for the adjacent Coyote Station, which uses about 2.5 million tons annually.

R.M. Heskett Station
Heskett Station is a lignite-based electric generating station with two boilers – the smaller is a spreader stoker and the larger is a fluidized bed. The Station provides baseload electric service, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Coal Creek Station
Coal Creek Station (CCS) is a lignite-based electric generating station with two pulverized tangential boilers. CCS provides baseload electric service, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Station is owned and operated by Great River Energy, headquartered in Maple Grove, MN.
Milton R. Young Station
Young Station, which is operated and partially owned by the Minnkota Power Cooperative, is a lignite-based electric generating station with two cyclone boilers. The Station provides baseload electric service, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Leland Olds Station
Basin Electric Power Cooperative’s Leland Olds Station is a lignite-based electric generating station with one pulverized wall-fired boiler and one cyclone boiler. LOS provides baseload electric service, operating 24 hours a day, seven day a week.
Antelope Valley Station
Antelope Valley Station (AVS) is a lignite-based electric generating station with two pulverized tangentially fired boilers. AVS provides baseload electric service, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. AVS is owned and operated by Basin Electric Power Cooperative, headquartered in Bismarck, ND.
Coyote Station
Coyote Station is a lignite-based electric generating station with one cyclone boiler. Coyote Station provides baseload electric service, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Station is operated by Otter Tail Power Company, along with Montana-Dakota Utilities Co., Northern Municipal Power Agency and Northwestern Energy.
Lewis & Clark Station
Lewis & Clark Station, which is owned and operated and by the Montana-Dakota Utilities Co., is a lignite-based electric generating station. The Station provides baseload electric service, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
