Lignite Energy Council establishes Minnesota political action committee

As you may already know, the lignite industry has a lot on the line in the upcoming November elections. Recently, the Lignite Energy Council established a new political action committee in Minnesota in order to contribute funds to key legislators. The goal is to support current legislators who support our industry and possess a voting record that proves it. The fund will also support new candidates who also deserve assistance.

This year, all 201 legislators in the House and the Senate are up for election. Just like at the federal level, energy policy is a partisan issue in Minnesota. If the upcoming election goes the wrong way this year and one party is left in charge of every branch of state government, the regional lignite industry will be hurt.

So far this year, the Minnesota fund has raised $5,000 largely funded by LEC staff and a few board members. Checks have been disbursed to 16 legislators and candidates.

Under Minnesota law, contributions must be made with personal funds. There have been two methods set up in order to accept contributions. If you are interested, you may either send a personal check to the Lignite Energy Council Political Fund at 1016 E Owens Ave, Bismarck ND 58501 or you can send funds online at www.lignitepac.com.

Disclaimer: contributions are voluntary, any amount will be accepted and the decision to contribute or not contribute will not create any advantage or disadvantage to anyone. Please reach out to Jonathan Fortner (JoanathanFortner@lignite.com) if you have any questions.
