Industrial greenhouses in North Dakota?

The Lignite Energy Council is proud to announce their partnership on a new podcast titled “Mined: Lignite Energy in America.”

Each week, host Kate Muggerud interviews leaders within the energy industry on a variety of topics. Kate Muggerud began the podcast to explore and learn more about the energy field and emerging markets. Her goal is to connect with others who have the same interest and wish to become more knowledgeable about the field.

On this week’s episode, Kate interviews Jason Bohrer, president and CEO of the Lignite Energy Council about industrial greenhouses.

Bohrer discusses the connection between energy and agriculture. Farms are huge consumers of energy. Commercial-sized greenhouses offer area ag producers a lot of advantages – such as an extended growing season and the ability to grow fruits and vegetables that might not otherwise survive North Dakota’s short growing season or extreme winter temperatures.

The Canadian province of Alberta has over 200 greenhouses that employ more than 4000 people and produce more fresh produce, which would otherwise cost more and need to be transported to Canadian grocery stores.

Mined: Lignite Energy in America is sponsored and produced by the Lignite Energy Council, a trade association representing the power plants, mines and the Great Plains Synfuels Plant in North Dakota along with more than 300 companies that provide goods and services to the lignite industry.
