On January 10, the Lignite Energy Council sent a notice to its members that they could purchase a special North Dakota license plate. The plate – which has the word “Coal” and a dragline on it – is a way for people in the state to show their support of the coal industry.
Kay LaCoe, director of membership marketing, said it has been a long process to get to this point where members can start ordering the new plates. The effort was prolonged when the state decided to change license plate designs. However, that is now behind us.
She said the Council has received about 35 applications so far but needs another 15 completed applications as the state requires a minimum first order of 50 plates.
