CREDIT DAVE THOMPSON / PRAIRIE PUBLICThis week, Governor Doug Burgum signed an historic infrastructure bill that will provide $250 million to help cities, counties and townships in non-oil producing counties in North Dakota. This bill funds infrastructure projects with oil and gas tax revenue and creates additional “buckets” for city, county, township and airport infrastructure funds, while adjusting the state’s Gross Production Tax in shifting streams of oil and gas tax revenue. A provision is included for $10 million to the Lignite Research Fund to help fund future R&D projects. This funding will help our industry continue to pursue innovative ways to provide value added opportunities for lignite such as carbon capture use and sequestration projects.
