Statement from LEC president Jason Bohrer on the president’s action on the Paris Agreement

The Lignite Energy Council (LEC) is pleased the president decided to withdraw from the Paris Agreement.  The agreement unjustifiably ratchets up the pressure on the coal industry by setting unrealistic deadlines while researchers continue to work for long term solutions for new ways to produce electricity while capturing and reusing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Furthermore, this change should not cause the federal government to slow its efforts to discover, test, and deploy newer CO2 technologies the rest of the world needs to curb global emissions.  Now we can focus on advancing those solutions based on commercial realities that will produce meaningful results.
