LEC President’s Statement Regarding FERC’s Determination on Grid Resiliency

“We are disappointed in yesterday's determination by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Currently regional electricity markets do not properly compensate generators who produce “always on” power or whose power is not susceptible to weather disruptions. It remains our hope that FERC will ultimately level the playing field when it comes to dispatching energy sources with the long-term goal focused on a resilient grid to serve our homes, businesses and the national economy. The recent cold snap that gripped major parts of our country at the end of December and the beginning of January clearly demonstrated that reliable energy sources are necessary to provide the required electricity when it’s needed most. We commend Energy Secretary Rick Perry for taking the initiative to address this important issue to ensure our nation maintains a diverse, reliable and resilient energy portfolio.” -- Jason Bohrer, president and chief executive officer, Lignite Energy Council.
