Antelope Valley Station

The Antelope Valley Station, Beulah, ND, is owned and operated by Basin Electric Power Cooperative. Unit 1 of the Antelope Valley Station began commercial operation in 1984 followed by Unit 2 in 1986. The station’s two units each have a generating capacity of 450 MW with a total generation capacity of 900 MW. The adjacent Freedom Mine provides the generation station with about 5 million tons of lignite coal each year. A majority of Antelope Valley Station’s fuel is also provided by the Great Plains Synfuels plant in the form of lignite fines – coal particles too small for the gasification process.
