Legislative Briefing

On Tuesday evening, the President and CEO Jason Bohrer presented the Lignite Energy Council’s legislative priorities and provided an industry update to over fifty legislators in the Russell Reid Auditorium at the North Dakota Heritage Center and State Museum. During the briefing, Bohrer highlighted three priority bills focused on advancing the interests of the lignite industry in North Dakota.

The priority bills are: House Bill 1439 is a proposed tax incentive for using lignite based carbon dioxide for enhanced oil recovery, House Bill 1066 which is an infrastructure funding package that also known as “Project Prairie Dog” includes increased funding for the Lignite Research Fund and Senate Bill 2044 increases critical infrastructure protections for both electric power plants and transmission lines.

Bohrer also highlighted the focus of the Lignite Energy Council for new market opportunities found in the rise of electric vehicles and in research into rare earth materials found in lignite.
