North Dakota is a powerhouse when it comes to energy — oil and gas, coal, ethanol, hydro-electric, wind, etc. — but we are also a clean air state thanks to the cooperation between industry and state regulators. The lignite industry is proud of its environmental record which includes award-winning mine reclamation along with meeting clean air and clean water standards. Currently, “Team North Dakota” is working on capturing CO2 from conventional power plants and safely storing it underground (sequestration).
