Why is North Dakota set to manage carbon dioxide? Kevin Connors explains

On this week’s Podcast, Kevin Connors, PCOR Partner Program Manager, talks about the 17-year history of the Plains CO2 Reduction Partnership and how North Dakota is well-positioned for operating in a carbon-constrained environment. He explains carbon capture, utilization and storage opportunities within the state and CCUS can benefit the oil, lignite and agriculture industries in the future.

Connors notes that a law passed by the North Dakota Legislature in 2009 treats CO2 as a commodity rather than a pollutant and has been foundational as North Dakota became the first state to achieve primacy in managing CO2.

Kate Muggerud and Geoff Simon are the hosts for this second year of podcasts, which feature leaders in the energy industry. The goal is to connect with others who have the same energy interests and wish to become more knowledgeable about policies and emerging technologies.

Mined: Lignite Energy in America is sponsored and produced by the Lignite Energy Council, a trade association representing the power plants, mines and the Great Plains Synfuels Plant in North Dakota along with more than 300 companies that provide goods and services to the lignite industry.
