Keeping lignite competitive

The North Dakota Legislature will be convening tomorrow, January 5, and is expected to conclude on or before Friday, April 30. The government affairs committee of the Lignite Energy Council has been putting together a list of priorities for the Legislature to consider. The list includes a tax holiday for the coal conversion facilities as a way to ensure the competitiveness of lignite-based electricity in regional power markets. This issue has become even more important given the recent extension of the federal production tax credit in December.
