For the third straight year, the Bismarck Larks and Lignite Energy Council are honoring five outstanding North Dakota teachers. The winning teachers were selected based on their dedication, commitment, and impact on today’s youth. They’ll be honored at a Larks baseball game on Friday, August 14. They also receive numerous other prizes and the overall outstanding teacher of the year receives $1,000 from the LEC that can be used to buy educational materials and equipment.
Overall 2020 Teacher of the Year: Alicia Marsh
Alicia Marsh teaches all grades at Legacy High School in Computer Programming, Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science, and Enriched Algebra 2. She was nominated by students for her desire for students to succeed. They recognize this and are motivated to do well academically. Not only that, but her energy in the classroom and kind disposition has allowed students to have a positive relationship with her.

Josh Standing Elk teaches 4th grade at Dorothy Moses Elementary School in Bismarck.
Justin Boles was a 1st grade substitute teacher at Solheim Elementary School in Bismarck.
Shawn Feiring teaches Agricultural Education at New Salem – Almont High School.
Trisha Elliot teaches 1st Grade at Hankinson Public School.
All the teachers are recognized by their students as going the “extra mile,” especially using remote teaching methods during the pandemic this spring.
Besides sponsoring the Teacher of the Year program, the Lignite Energy Council is also a proud sponsor of the Bismarck Larks. This year, the LEC is sponsoring a “scavenger hunt” at the baseball game focused on carbon capture and storage technology.
